FAA status for MSY
Checking the FAA feed…
Source: FAA National Airspace System Status. Covers ground stops, ground delay programs and airport-wide delays, not single flights.
What the FAA alerts mean
- Ground stop
- Flights headed to MSY are held at their origin airports, usually for weather or a runway problem.
- Ground delay program
- Arrivals are metered, so flights to MSY get assigned departure times at their origin.
- Arrival or departure delays
- General delays of 15 minutes or more for flights in or out.
- No alerts
- No airport-wide holds. Your own flight can still be late for other reasons such as crew or aircraft.
Weather that slows New Orleans flights
Summer afternoon thunderstorms, fog and the Atlantic hurricane season (June 1 to November 30) are the usual causes. When a storm is forecast, airlines often post travel waivers that let you change flights without a fee; check your airline's travel alerts. See the airport weather forecast.

Questions travelers ask
Where does the MSY delay information come from?
From the FAA National Airspace System Status feed, which lists ground stops, ground delay programs, closures and general delays by airport.
The FAA shows no delays but my flight is late. Why?
The FAA feed only covers airport-wide traffic management. Crew, aircraft and airline issues are only in the airline app.
