Kenner, by the airport
Best for early flights and late arrivals
The Airline Drive corridor next to the airport has chain hotels, several of which advertise free airport shuttles. Hilton New Orleans Airport is one of the closest, on Airline Drive. Shuttle hours and fees change, so check before you travel with the hotel before you book.
Metairie
Between the airport and the city
Suburban hotels, easy parking and quick interstate access in both directions. Useful with a rental car; less so without one.
CBD and Warehouse District
Closest to the bus and taxi drop
Big hotels near the Convention Center, the Superdome and the 202 bus stops at Elk Place and the Union Passenger Terminal. The taxi flat fare covers this area.
French Quarter
Walk to everything, louder at night
Historic hotels and guesthouses close to Bourbon Street, Jackson Square and the river. Rooms on quieter streets away from Bourbon suit light sleepers. Hotel parking is limited and costly.
Garden District and Uptown
Quieter, on the St. Charles streetcar
Guesthouses and smaller hotels among the oak-lined streets, linked to downtown by the St. Charles streetcar line. The taxi flat fare does not cover this area, so ask for an estimate.
